Andrea Caldarelli close to the podium in Misano

Andrea Caldarelli barely missed podium in Misano, third 2018 Sprint Cup event in the Blancpain GT Series. The Italian, Factory Driver for Lamborghini Squadra Corse, drove the car #19 sharing the seat with Ezequiel Perez Companc and scored a fourth place in a recovery race during the first week-end event. Taking the car in the second stint by the Argentinian driver, Andrea close the gap until crossing the chequered flag few seconds off the podium, pairing the performance shown already in Zolder and Brands Hatch. Started from 5th row in Sunday Race, Andrea had to face two tires punctures on his stint, the first one at the very early stage in the first lap.

“Misano is my home race, as is the closest in Blancpain GT Series calendar to Pescara, my hometown. Last time I raced here, it was in 2010 with Formula 3 and I won. Conditions were pretty similar, with a storm on Friday with basically no chance to run FP1, while in the night free practice during the night, the pace was good, as shown in qualifying. We lost a bit of gap in the early stage of race-1, otherwise the podium would have been possible. Same conditions for Sunday, when unfortunately two punctures prevented us even from the points”.
