Andrea Caldarelli’s race compromised by a contact in Brands Hatch

Brands Hatch week-end came to an early end for Andrea Caldarelli. The 28-years-old Italian, Factory Driver for Lamborghini Squadra Corse, had to retire due a crash in Turn-2 during Sunday’s race 2 in United Kingdom, second Blancpain GT Seris Sprint Cup. After debut podium in Zolder, the expectations were high, but Andrea and his teammate Ezequiel Perez-Companc had to face a difficult set-up feeling in the Kent region. Despite the fastest lap time set in free practice 1, the Grasser Racing’s Huracan GT3 faced a difficult situation when also the other opponents went on a qualifying simulation. During qualifying sessions, Andrea and Ezequiel set respectively 11th and 13th time. In race 1 Andrea jumped in in the second stint, crossing the finish line 12th, while in the afternoon race, driving at the start, he was pushed in the back at corner 2, finishing his race in the gravel.

“I haven’t race in Brands Hatch for the last nine years, when I was in Formula 3 and I finished with a podium. The track is really funny, an old style circuit, but unfortunately we’ve not many overtaking zones. We hadn’t an optimal set-up, but I think together the team and Ezequiel we got maximum we could from our potential. We put all on race-2 for a good result, but I’ve been kicked out in turn 2, without any chance to restart. I’m disappointed because shortly after with a neutralization we could have been able to gain many positions, but that’s part of the game”.
