Recovery race until 4th place for Andrea Caldarelli in Monza

Andrea Caldarelli barely missed Blancpain GT Series podium in Monza, for maiden Endurance Cup round. The Pescara-born driver was in Grasser Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 for the second stint, and brought the #63 car from the low top-10 to the podium. Driving Q1 in Sunday morning qualifying, with a revised format counting the average lap-time from all three drivers, Andrea saw Mirko Bortolotti starting the race from P13, and losing some position at the first corner congestion. Taking the wheels in the points, Caldarelli drove the second stint until the third slot on the podium, and gave the car to Engelhart one lap earlier on the call, to avoid traffic. Unfortunately, the tyres degradation in the final was too high and Christian had to give third place to Black Falcon’s Mercedes, and fight against the Jaguar from Silver Cup in the final. Next round for Andrea in the Endurance Cup will be in May at Silverstone, while next week call is for GT Masters, at the Czech venue of Most.

“Comparing the situation to one year ago, many thing are changed. We knew would have been hard repeat the wonderful debut of 2017, but with 15Kg of extra-weight arrived for Sunday, we had to struggle. Both me, Christian and Mirko drove 100% for the whole race, and the team supported us with a great strategy at the end of my stint, calling me in for an undercut as Engelhart could avoid the traffic. Unluckily the tyres’ degradation in the end was too high, and we had to lose the third place”.
