Andrea Caldarelli starts 2016 season with fourth place

The 2016 SUPER GT campaign kicked-off with a positive fourth place for Andrea Caldarelli at Okayama, as the 26-year-old Italian, driving the TEAM LE MANS WAKO’S LEXUS RC F, scored some valuable points for the championship in the season opener. Caldarelli drove the WAKO’S 4CR RC F from the start, after the Italian-Japanese duo including team-mate Kazuya Oshima captured a front row position in qualifying. Andrea was able to keep the tails of the leading cars until lap 30, when the changing weather conditions left his tires struggling for grip. Once back on-track after the driver change, Oshima tried to hold onto third place but was forced to surrender it due to the high tire degradation.

“The final balance of the weekend is positive. We are going back home with a solid fourth place which, given how things turned out during the race, was the best we could accomplish. We crossed the line as the second LEXUS, and the cars with Michelin tires are having an advantage compared to us. The conditions changed a bit compared to preseason testing, but we continue to be strong on a single lap, as demonstrated by our second position in qualifying and by our first place in the warm-up. A big thank you goes to the LEXUS TEAM LE MANS WAKO’S. This was our first race together and I am really happy for how it went”.
