Andrea Caldarelli scores authoritative SUPER GT win at Motegi

Andrea Caldarelli completed his 2015 racing season with a pole position followed by a win at Motegi, in the final round of the Super GT championship. Driving his LEXUS RC-F fielded by KeePer Team Tom’s, An-drea ended the year in the same way he had opened it, with an authoritative victory. The result scored at Motegi confirms the top-class competitive level of both the Japanese squad and the young Italian racer, who ended up fourth in the championship standings.

The weekend was conditioned by the variable weather, with the rain affecting most of the running at the Northern Japanese venue. Andrea drove in the Q1 session in qualifying, providing advice on the tire choi-ce to his team-mate Ryo Hirakawa who went on to confirm the potential shown by cruising to pole. After taking-off from the lead, Andrea held the point throughout his whole stint with rain tires, before leaving the wheel to Hirakawa, who then completed final part of the race.

“I’m really happy for the result we got at Motegi, it really rewarded the whole team for their great effort throughout the season. Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to fight for the title due to some unlucky breaks in the middle part of the year, but we finally showed we were back being highly competitive again. In the latest stages of the race, Ryo was really good in managing the re-start from the safety-car after the 13-second margin we had built was wiped away”.
