Andrea Caldarelli sees podium chances slip away at Sugo

It has been a challenging weekend for Andrea Caldarelli in the sixth round of the 2015 SUPER GT championship at Sugo. The Italian racer, driving for the LEXUS KeePer TOMíS team, saw his chances for a podium finish slip away despite having held a comfortable third place due to an issue happened during the driver change. The potential of his LEXUS RC-F had clearly emerged in qualifying, with Andrea setting the third fastest laptime of Q1 and team-mate Ryo Hirakawa capping off the session with a fourth place. After starting from the second row, on a twisty track like the Sugo, which is located among the hills surrounding Sendai, Andrea had managed to clinch third place straight away, holding the position until the pit-stop.

ďIt hasn't been the best weekend of the season for sure. We had great potential and the team provided us with an excellent set-up considering the compensation ballast we had . Unfortunately, also due to the tight pit-lane at Sugo and during a crowded pit-stop situation, our car lifted up on its jack with the engine still running. The incident obviously led to a penalty that cost us a shot at the front and we ended up in ninth placeĒ.
