Andrea Caldarelli scores points finishes at Suzuka

The 1000 kilometer race of Suzuka brought Andrea Caldarelli back to the points zone in the SUPER GT championship after the tough outing at Fuji. The 25-year-old Italian scored sixth place in Q2 in qualifying despite the heavy handicap coming from the previous rounds. For the start of the race, it was team-mate Ryo Hirakawa to get into the car, but on the 27th lap the Japanese racer ended up into the barriers. He eventually managed to get back on-track about two minutes later after the stewards recovered the car. At the following pit-stop, Andrea got into the car and he and Ryo started their recovery which eventually brought them to an eight place finish.

"It's a pity because, if we consider that we recovered one lap throughout the race, we could have fought for the podium. But these things happen in racing, especially in a tight race like the 1000KM of Suzuka. In my stint on the wet, I recovered 40 seconds on the car I had in front, while during my second run on the dry I unlapped myself, also thanks to the issues occurred to the leader. All in all, eight place enabled us to score more points that might be key by the end of the year".
