Strategy issue deprives Caldarelli of a points finish at Motegi

It's been a tough weekend for Andrea Caldarelli at Motegi, as the Italian racer lined-up for the fourth round of the 2015 Super Formula championship. Representing Lenovo Team Impul, Caldarelli started his run by testing a new set-up developed after Fuji which delivered encouraging results in practice, handing him 3rd place. Qualifying proved equally positive, with a 6th place just one tenth of a second away from the top-3. Then, unfortunately, the weather came into play. Before the race, several rainfalls hit the circuit which went quickly from dry to wet to dry multiple times. As a consequence, the pit-wall opted for a conservative race strategy that eventually forced the team to content with 11th place.

"I'm disappointed for not having scored point, but the steps forward we made from the technical point of view surely are a really positive factor. Compared to Fuji, we turned our car upside down and the modifications clearly paid off from a performance standpoint. We scored encouraging results in practice, and qualifying has also been one of the best of the season so far with only one tenth of a second separating us from the front rows. At the start, I kept the sixth position, but then we decided not to change tires at the pit-stop but the strategy didn't pay off because our race pace wasn't good in the following stages".
