Andrea Caldarelli keeps Super GT lead

Andrea Caldarelli leaves Thailand, home of the third round of the 2015 Super GT championship, still in the series' points lead. The Italian, driving for KeePer Tom's, was able to round out a complicated event with a valuable points finish in sixth. Thanks to the result scored at Buriram, he was able to continue leading the charts with 30 points. As prescribed by the rules, after winning the opening round of the season, Caldarelli and team-mate Ryo Hirakawa had to deal with 50 kilograms of compensation weight for the whole weekend. The added ballast compromised the performance of their Lexus RC-F car. The pairing went from sixth place on the grid to sixth place on the line: Caldarelli and Ryo will deal 10 additional kilograms for the next round, scheduled for the 9th of August at Fuji.

“We struggled a little bit but we managed to retain the championship lead. It hasn't been easy because, compared to the others, we have an huge handicap that impacts on our performance and forces us to run after them. However, I made a small mistake that cost us a couple of tenths in qualifying, so I think that fourth place would have been possible. During my stint, I gained one position, leaving the car to my team-mate in fifth. Unfortunately, due to a small issue we were prevented from fighting for a podium finish. Anyway I'm satisfied with the pace we had and I think we will once be among the frontrunners in the upcoming rounds”.
