First points for Andrea Caldarelli in SUPER FORMULA at Suzuka

Positive result for Andrea Caldarelli in the opening round of SUPER FORMULA in Suzuka. The new Japanese serie which replaced Formula Nippon saw the return of Andrea Caldarelli in a single-seater race scoring his best result. Driving the Swift-Toyota prepared by TEAM KYGNUS SUNOCO Caldarelli gained 7th place after 300km of race. Starting from 6th row after some set-up testing during free practice and qualifying, which did not work very well specially in Qualy, Andrea made as usual a strong race earning two positions on the first lap, and overtook ex-Formula 1 driver Takuma Sato on second lap. After the pit-stop the Italian driver re-joined the race in 8th position, in front of the teammate who was starting from 4th row. In the last lap Andrea overtook also Kohei Hirate, scoring his best result. His preview record was the 9th position in Sugo 2011. This is another excellent performance for Andrea after the 1st time registered few weeks ago in collective test at Fuji.

Andrea Caldarelli
“I’m really pleased to had the chance from TOYOTA and TEAM KYGNUS SUNOCO to race in Suzuka. In agreed with them I tested a lot of set-up solutions, registering different results just to support the team that has already the important objective to teach how to drive this car to a rookie driver. In Fuji’s testing we scored the best time and also with the strong result of today we showed our potential. I think that in during season the team can use our work to develop the car and gain other good results like this one which give me the opportunity to take my first points in the championship”.
