In the final points-scoring round of the 2011 Formula Nippon championship, Italian Andrea Caldarelli joined-in with the clear goal of scoring the best possible results for himself and the whole team Kondo. The Pescara-based racer, who progressively made his way up the ranks aboard the squad's Toyotapowered Swift racecar, presented on-track determined to finalize the great job done so far. On Race 1, after having recovered up to 5th place at take-off, Andrea was touched and forced to retire with front damage but, thanks to the team's effort, made it to the start of Race 2.In the first few laps he made up several spots on a wet racetrack before being involved in a safety-car incident. Andrea's car was struck by Yuji Kunimoto, who could not realize that the other cars were slowing down, and the Japanese racer's car literally flew over him. Four more cars were involved, and while Kunimoto was disqualified, Andrea was brought to the track's medical center. No broken bones were found, although Andrea suffered a bruise with a suspect muscular strain.

"I'm really really saddened for how my first season in Formula Nippon ended up. We would have been able to score our first points as the car was running great in the early stages of the races. Luckily enough, there haven't been serious consequences following the two crashes. This week I'll know if my hand is ok and I'm really looking forward to take part in next week's Sprint Cup at Fuji. After that, I'll need to stay at the top of my shape to fly to Austria for the FIA Institute Young Driver Excellence Academy selectionů"
