Andrea Caldarelli faced a tough final race for his 2009 Formula 3 Euro
Series season. The Italian, fielded by SG Formula as a part of the Toyota
Driver Program, once again shows some top-8 potential after the positive
results scored at Barcelona and Dijon. Caldarelli lost big part of his chances
in Qualifying tough, as he was demoted from 8th to 20th place by the steward
due to an interpretation of turn 1's track limits.
On Race 1, Andrea showed great shape, recovering up to the 13th place
and setting the record clear for a top-10 finish on Race 2. On Sunday
though, his on-track performance was marred by the decision to start on
rain tires, and as the track began to dry, he progressively lost position and,
in an attempt to keep the pace with other cars, slipped and made contact
with the retaining barriers.

"It's been a tough race here at Hockenheim. On Qualifying I was deprived
of my best 7 laps due to my line at the first corner, and fell to the back of
the pack. From that point on, everything got terribly complicated. I recovered
well on Race 1, climbing up to the 13th spot, but the decision to start
on wet tires didn't prove right on Race 2 . As the asphalt came dry, I experienced
more and more difficulties, and while trying to resist I slipped, hitting
the barriers.
"This season had really good moments, like the podium scored at
Barcelona, as well as many bad ones. It was mi first F.3 Euro Series season,
and the second for the team, so we paid the price of inexperience. I'm really
satisfied we managed to overturn a difficult starting situation, and that's
definitely a good ending for my 2009 season."
