Caldarelli ends positive weekend with podium finish

10-09-2008

Andrea Caldarelli was back on the podium in the latest round of the 2008 F.Renault Eurocup held at
the Nurburgring. In the first event after the series' summer break, the Italian driver fielded as a part
of the Toyota Driver Program, confirmed not to have lost momentum. Before flying to the
Nurburgring, Caldarelli entered a previously scheduled 2-day West European Cup test at Magny-
Cours, cruising at the top of the charts in his SG Formula Tatuus racecar. Nonetheless, Andrea confirmed
to be as fast on the German venue too, by staying among the leaders in practice, and edging
the 42-car field on the first segment. He then confirmed his extremely fast pace in Qualifying by
taking the 2nd fastest mark of his group, and moving forward to the SuperPole where, due to a sudden
lack of grip, he lost some time around, settling for 4th place. On Race 1, Andrea ended up in 5th,
struggling to fight back in the convulse early stages, while a great start enabled him to be competitive
since the first lap on Race 2. He moved over on Vergne at takeoff, and challenged Mehri for the
lead, before settling for 3rd in order to avoid potential fighting dangers and score valuable points.
Caldarelli is still running second in the series' standings behind team-mate Daniel Ricciardo, running
as the best TDP driver of the Eurocup in the last three years, and being the highest-ranked Italian ever.
Caldarelli will now be facing a challenging weekend, as he'll enter two separate events next weekend.
At Le Mans, Andrea will race in both the Eurocup F.Renault and in the West European Cup, for a total
4 races in two days.
